BharatNet

BharatNet, a project of the Government of India, envisages connecting all Village Panchayats of the country with scalable bandwidth using Optical Fibre Cable (OFC). Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu announced on 14.09.2015 that the BharatNet project of Government of India will be implemented in Tamil Nadu through a State-led Model and a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) named “Tamil Nadu FibreNet Corporation Limited” will be set up for the purpose. Government issued necessary orders for the formation and TANFINET Corporation was incorporated under the companies Act, 2013 on 08.06.2018.

A Detailed Project Report (DPR) to implement the project in linear architecture using GPON technology was approved by Government of India for Rs.1230.90 Crores. Later the architecture of BharatNet was revised incorporating contemporary technology and the DPR on the revised architecture, called as the Revised Linear Architecture (RLA), was sent to Government of India is approved.

Under the BharatNet project all the 12,525 Village Panchayats of the State will be provided with a bandwidth of 1 Gbps which can be scaled up as required.
