To encourage the artistic talents among the students; competitions are being conducted in the field of Vocal, Bharathanatyam, Folk Dance and Drawing at the District Level for the children in the age group of 5-8 years, 9-12 years and 13-16 years. The winners are awarded with prizes and certificates. At the end of the District Level Competitions, a State Level Cultural Competition among the District Level first prize winners in the category of 9-12 years, 13-16 years age groups is being conducted.
A state level cultural competition among the first prize winners of District level competition is being organised in any one of the cities of Tamilnadu. In this State Level Competition, the first prize of Rs.10,000/- each to 8 students, the second prize of Rs.7,500/- each to 8 students and third prize of Rs.5,000/- each to 8 students ie a cash award worth of Rs. 1,80,000/-, with Medals and Certificates were distributed to 24 students and Participation certificates distributed to who are participated in the Competition from all over Tamil Nadu.
To spend the summer vacation in a useful manner by the students of our state, the District Level Summer Art training camps were conducted in all 32 Districts except the newly created five Districts.
Every year, the Jawahar Siruvar Manrams conducts Winter / Summer Camps. Winter Camp is being conducted in anyone of the cities of Tamilnadu, whereas the Summer Camps are conducted only in Hill Stations. 100 Students for each camp are given training in the field of Bharathanatyam, Folk Dance, Vocal Music, Drawing, Handicraft, Silambam and Yoga. Summer Training Camps are conducted for 100 students every year.
Every year, the Jawahar Siruvar Manrams conducts state level craft workshops in which children are trained in Terracotta, Doll making, Batik Collage, Handicrafts and Candle making. The hidden talent of children are brought to fore in these camps which making them self reliant.
Every year, National Bal Bhavan, New Delhi organise National Bal Shree Selection Camp in four main streams included of 16 substreams namely, Creative Performance (a. Vocal Music, b. Dance, c. Percussion/Instrumental Music, d. Theatre and Puppetry) Creative Art (a. Painting, b. Sculpture, c. Craft, d. Visual Arts (Designing Graphics and Digital Art)) Creative Innovative Science ( a. Science Model Making, b. Science Project Innovation, c. Scientific Problem Solving, d. Scientific Innovation) and Creative Writing (a. Poem, b. Story, c. Prose, d. Dialogues and Play ) in the age group of 10+ to 12 years, 12+ to 14 years and 14+ to 16 years. This selection is organised in three levels viz., District Level, State Level and National Level.
District level competitions are conducted in the month of June or July in every year. State Level competitions are conducted in the month of August or September and National Level Competitions are conducted by National Bal Bhavan.
The National Bal Shree Award award is given by Hon’ble Human Resource Development Minister of Government of India. A cash award of Rs.15,000/- (Kisan Vikas Patra) each and a citation plaque, Literature Set are given to Awardees. The Tamilnadu Government also encourages, the National Bal Shree Awardees from Tamilnadu are given Rs.15,000/- cash prize and a citation.
