Asthagireeswarar Koil - Varichiyur - Temple

HISTORICAL BACKGROUNDS :

On the western slope of the hill a small cave temple is chiseled out during the same early pandya period and now at present this temple is named as Asthagiriswarar. On the face of the rock, a model structure of an early Pandya structural temple is engraved as a line diagram or bas-relief.

These two Uthaya GirI and Astha Giri temples are named so because of the direction they are facing where the sun rises and sets and may be dated to 8th century AD.
