HISTORICAL BACKGROUNDS :

This village was called Srikandaradhitha Mangalam in the Chola period. The Siva temple has been constructed in the early Chola architectural style. The small Sivalingam in this temple has facial features. According to the inscriptions found on the southern side of the sanctum sanctorum, this temple used to be called Thirunareeswaram.
