Plan Project

Development of Underground Coal Gasification (UGC) technology in India (CoalGasUrja)

Underground Coal Gasification (UCG) refers to the in-situ gasification of coal. It is accomplished by first establishing two vertical boreholes – the injection well and the production well. Next, the two wells are horizontally linked within the coal seam using specialized techniques such as directional drilling. Reactant gas mixtures (steam & oxygen) are sent through the injection well and suitable conditions for the ignition or start-up of the coal reactions is provided.

Robotics and Micro Machines (RoμM)

• Development of robot technology for security, surveillance, disaster mitigation, underground mines etc.
• Development of processes & technologies for generating micro-nano scale features /structures on multi material substrates over relatively larger area with a view to develop of micro machines and subsystems etc.

Diagnosis of salivary fluoride level by suitable chemosensor

Development of small solution kit prototype for salivary fluoride level detection and its possible commercialization.

Production of Briquettes from agricultural residues, its process optimization and quality analysis

Process optimization for production of briquettes from different agricultural wastes, selection of suitable binder, optimization of physical parameters of briquette, proximate analysis of produced briquettes, design and development of low-cost efficient briquetting machine, Design and development of improved chullah/ tandoor to suit with developed briquettes

Feasibility study of graphene based PCM cooling for battery thermal management system

Thermal issues associated with the batteries are of great concern as cell temperature significantly affects the performance, life, and safety of batteries. Thermal behaviour is often characterized by an increase in performance and a decrease in life and safety as temperature increases beyond the typical operating range. Additionally, cycling generates a certain amount of heat that must be rejected from the module to maintain its temperature in the preferred range.

Development of Technology for Safe Disposal of Municipal Solid Waste utilising high temperature plasma

The proposed project aims at developing suitable integrated waste management technology for handling 500 Kg per day municipal solid waste, at CSIR-CMERI. Plasma based waste-management technologies have been aimed to be applied for this project.

Preliminary Investigation on Dip Pen Nanolithography

Main Objectives :

i) Development of molecules such as alkane thiols and other appropriate chemical entities for possible use as ink.

ii) Exploratory development atudies of Atomic Force Microscope or possible use in Dip Pen Nanolithography

iii) Investigation of spatially narrow deposition of ink molecules from the tip and self-assembly of ink molecules functionalized through chemisorptin to the different substrates of interest i.e. gold/glass etc.
