ELCOT was constituted by the State Government with the main objective of assisting the development of IT and electronics in the State. Since inception, ELCOT branched out to establish IT Special Economic Zones (SEZs) and has set-up IT SEZs in Chennai and Tier-II cities of the State viz. Coimbatore, Madurai, Tiruchirappalli, Salem, Tirunelveli and Hosur providing direct employment opportunities to about 77,000 people.
