Tamil Nadu Jawahar Siruvar Mandrams | Department of Art and Culture

The Tamil Nadu Jawahar Siruvar Manram was established in 1979 at Chennai for children in the age group of five to sixteen years with the aim of enhancing the creative potential of children by providing basic education in arts training, opportunities and common platform to interact, perform and make them to participate in art competitions, bringing out the hidden artistic talents to show righteous path to the students in life through arts. Jawahar Siruvar Manrams provide the children complete freedom to create, innovate and also to learn in a play way method. They provide a stress free environment for its member children through dance, drama, music, martial art, creative art, computers etc.

Each Jawahar Siruvar Manram is carrying out the objectives of National Bal Bhavan, New Delhi, a National level organisation functioning under the Ministry of Human Resource Development.

objectives of Jawahar Siruvar Manrams are:

To provide opportunities to children in art education and creativity.
To provide the children with experiences and activities not otherwise available to them.
To offer art educational services in order to enrich their curricular and extracurricular activities.
To develop personality and talents of children through recreation and physical activities.
To promote social and cultural contacts amongst the children of all classes and communities.
To promote the above mentioned activities as a movement.

In Tamil Nadu forty Jawahar Siruvar Manrams are functioning in various districts in the names of District Jawahar Siruvar Manrams, Jawahar Siruvar Manrams Extension Centres and Jawahar Siruvar Manrams Rural Centres.

Part time training in Jawahar Siruvar Manrams:-

Training is given in 13 disciplines at Chennai Mylapore centre and in 4 disciplines at the District Centres in the disciplines of Vocal Music, Bharathanatyam, Folk Dance, Crafts, Drama, Gymnastics, Mridhangam, Karate, Computer, Key Board, Veena, Drums, Tailoring, Drawing and Painting, Screen Printing, Yoga and Silambattam,
