CWSS to Vellore Corporation , 11 Municipalities, 5 Town Panchayats and 944 Rural habitations in 14 Unions in Vellore District with River Cauvery as Source
The announcement was made during the Assembly for the year 2010 – 11 to implement the CWSS to Vellore Corporation , 11 Municipalities, 5 Town Panchayats and 944 Rural habitations in 14 Unions of Vellore District with River Cauvery as Source .
The Vellore Combined Water Supply Scheme (CWSS) with River Cauvery as source is implemented with an estimated cost of Rs. 1295.00 Crore to provide drinking water to the population of 18.68 lakhs (Present) comprised in Vellore Corporation, 11 Municipalities (Thirupathur, Jolarpet, Vaniyambadi, Ambur, Pernambut, Gudiyatham, Melvisharam, Arcot, Ranipet, Walajahpet & Arakonam), 5 Town Panchayats ( Natrampalli, Alangayam, Udayendrum, Odugathur & Pallikonda) & 944 Rural habitations in 14 unions (Alangayam , Anaicut, Arcot, Gudiyatham, Jolarpet, K.V.Kuppam , Kandhili , Kaniyambadi, Katpadi , Madhanur, Pernambut, Tirupathur, Vellore, Walajah) in Vellore District
This project is designed to supply 181 MLD of water for the Intermediate population of 21.49 lakhs in the year 2027 and 215 MLD of water for the ultimate population of 24.46 lakhs in the year 2042.
In this scheme water is drawn from River Cauvery near Chekkanur Barrage Down stream of Mettur Dam. After full scale Water Treatment at Thottilpatti Village, water is pumped through three Booster Stations through a Transmission mains length of 79.26 km to the Master Balancing Ground Level Service Reservoir at Kadathur .From Kadathur Master Balancing reservoir , the water is being conveyed by Gravity up to Arakonam Sump through three Break Pressure Tanks through a Transmission mains length of 391.49 Km.
Further the water is being conveyed through transmission mains length of 1657 Km to 157 numbers of sumps and to 1155 numbers of existing Service reservoirs and 34 numbers of new Service reservoirs. Then the water is being distributed to the Public through new distribution system laid for 304.14 Km along with the existing distribution system.
The scheme was implemented under 3 packages and work order was issued on Package 1,2 & 3 on 05.03.2012, 30.12.2011 & 30.12.2011 respectively. The scheme was completed in all respects and regular water supply is being effected to 11 Municipalities, 5 Town Panchayats and 944 Rural habitations.
Now the scheme is under TWAD Maintenance.
The Scheme was inaugurated by the Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on 28.12.2015.
At present …….MLD of water is being supplied to the beneficiaries.
