Water Supply Improvement Scheme to Nagercoil Municipality in Kanyakumari District has been administratively sanctioned for Rs.251.43 Crore in G.O.(Ms).92, dt.12.9.2017.

The scheme is implemented with the fund tie up of AMRUT, World Bank assisted TNUDF and ULB share.

The scheme has been designed for the intermediate and Ultimate population of 3.20 lakh (2032) and 3.90 lakh (2047) and designed supply during intermediate and ultimate stage is 41.12 MLD and 52.04 MLD. The pro rate supply adopted is 135 lpcd.

Under this scheme, it is proposed to construct 8.00m dia off take  well cum pump house on the upstream side of puthen dam near Perunchani.  The water from the off take well is to be pumped through a pumping main for a total length of 31.85 km to the fullscale  Treatment plant of capacity 41.12 MLD located at existing WTP site at Krishnancoil. The existing WTP III capacity is to be enhanced to 18 mld capacity. After treatment the clear water will be collected in 19.70 LL sump and pumped to the proposed SRs (of-12 Nos) and existing SR of 11 Nos and then the water will be distributed through D’system of 420.612 km in 26 Zones. It is proposed to give 85000 Hsc through the scheme.

Work order issued on 15.11.2017 and works are in progress. The scheme is to be complete by 07/2023 and put into beneficial use.

On completion of this scheme the water supply at the rate of 135 lpcd to 3.90 lakh population
