CWSS TO KALAKADU MUNICIPALITY AND 7 TOWN PANCHAYATS IN TIRUNELVELI DISTRICT WITH RIVER TAMIRABARANI AS SOURCE
Combined water supply scheme to Kalakadu Municipality and 7 Town Panchayats in Tirunelveli District with river Tamirabarani as Source was accorded administrative sanction vide G.O (Ms) No. 80, dated 22.06.2023 for Rs. 423.13 crore. The fund tie up for this scheme is under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation 2.0 (AMRUT 2.0) and ULB contribution.
The scheme is designed to supply 24.50 MLD and 30.16 MLD in the intermediate (2039) and ultimate stage (2059) to benefit population of 2.14 lakh and 2.50 lakh respectively. The designed per capita supply is 135 LPCD.
In this scheme it is proposed to draw surface water from River Thamiraparani near Cheranmahadevi by providing 8m dia Intake Well cum pump house. From the Intake well the raw water will be pumped through MS pipe for a length of 9.06 Km to the proposed Water Treatment Plant of capacity 25.72 MLD located at Thiruviruthanpulli Village. The clear water collected at 10.65 LL clear water sump located at WTP. From clear water sump the water will be pumped to the ridge point at LS 17580 KM, which will feed water to Intermediate Booster sump at Malayadiputhur, thirukkurungudi and Eruvadi sumps of capacity 3.45 LL, 0.45 LL and 1.70 LL respectively by gravity. The requirements of Kalakadu Municipality will be collected at 2.30 LL sump tapped at LS 12.12 KM of pumping main. The requirement of Nanguneri (0.25LL), Moolakaraipatti(0.80LL), Thisayanvilai(1.75LL) are to be tapped at L.S.14.460 KM of pumping main and collected at 2.90 LL capacity of MSR at Nanguneri.
The water from Nanguneri MSR(2.90LL) will be gravitated to Nanguneri , Moolakaraipatti, Thisayanvilai. The water from malaiyadipudur sump will be pumped to vadakuvalliyur sump (3.50LL) and to the ridge point at L.S.8370 km and then by gravity to Panagudi sump (2.90LL). The total pumping main and gravity main length proposed to Municipality and Town panchayat sump is 116.13 Km. From the Town panchayat and Municipality sumps the water will be pumped to 37 existing service reservoirs and 24 proposed service reservoir through the feeder main length of 105.20 Km. From the service reservoirs, water will be distributed through existing and newly proposed distribution network for a length of 522 KM. From this scheme 49,417 house service connection (FHTC) will be provided.
The Work order for this scheme was issued on 27.02.2024. The scheme will be completed by August 2025 and put into beneficial use of the public.
