CWSS to 1286 rural habitations in Virudhunagar District and 45 rural habitations in Thoothukudi District with river Tamirabarani as source was administratively sanctioned for 1387.73 Crore vide G.O(Ms) No:157 MAWS (W.S.I) department /dated: 28.10.2022 with the funding pattern under Jal Jeevan Mission .

The scheme is proposed for the supply of water to 1286 Rural Habitations in 11 unions Rajapalayam, Srivilliputhur, Watrap, Virudhunagar, Sivakasi, Sattur, Vembakottai, Aruppukottai, Thiruchuli, Kariapatti and Narikudi Union in Virudhunagar District and 45 Rural Habitations in 2 unions Kovilpatti and Kayathar Unions in Thoothukudi District.

The scheme is designed to supply 36.56 MLD(2039) and 43.70 MLD (2054) in the intermediate and ultimate stage to benefit the population of 8.39 Lakh and 9.51 Lakh respectively. The per capita supply adopted is 55 LPCD for rural habitations.

Surface water from the Intake well proposed in river Tamirabarani near Seevalaperi of Rajapalayam, Srivilliputhur, Watrap, Virudhunagar, Sivakasi, Sattur, Vembakottai, Aruppukottai, Thiruchuli, Kariapatti and Narikudi unions of Virudhunagar District and Kovilpatti and Kayathar Unions Thoothukudi District. The water from the Offtake well will be pumped to the proposed booster sump at 3 Master Service Reservoir and from sump again water will be pumped to 16 Group sumps and 20 Booster sumps and 127 Rural sumps through a proposed pumping main length of 84.106 km. From the group sumps water will be pumped to 892 existing service reservoirs and 178 newly proposed service reservoirs through a feeder main and branch main proposed for a length of 2443.92 km. From the service reservoirs water will be distributed through existing and newly proposed distribution system proposed. It is proposed to provide 218808 Nos of FHTC from this scheme.

The scheme is divided into three packages. Package I and II are Tender stage. Work order issued for Package III was issued on 19.06.2023 and proposed to be completed by 12/2024.
