The scheme was Administratively Sanctioned vide G.O. No. 50/dated 21.05.2018 for Rs. 740.15 Crores. The Revised Administrative Sanction has been accorded vide G.O. No. 36 /dated 10.03.2020 for Rs. 779.86 Crore.

The scheme has been designed for the intermediate and Ultimate population of 24.87 lakh (2035) and 32.79 lakh (2050) and designed to supply water at intermediate and ultimate stage is 178.30 MLD and 318.17 MLD. The pro rate supply adopted is 135 lpcd.

Under this scheme, it is proposed to construct Raw Water Intake Well cum Pumphouse near EB Barrage I Samayapuram (0.50 km upstream of Barriage –Murgaiyan Parisal Thurai) along River Bhavani. The water from intake well is to be pumped through Raw Water Transmission Main for a length of 15.65 Km to the Water Treatment Plant of capacity 178.30 MLD at Thandiperumal puram, Maruthur Village. After treatment the clear water will be collected in Master Storage Tank (MST) of capacity 146 Lakh Litres, (2 tanks of capacity 73.00 LL. Each) at Pannimadai through clear water main of 14.48 km. Construction of Clear Water Tunnel for a length of 900m through Kattan Hills, 30 m away from the existing Clear water gravity Tunnel of Pillur I Scheme. The water is gravitate from Master Storage tank to Ramakrishnapuram MBR (30.00 LL) for a length of 24.52 km & Pillaiyarpuram (20.00LL) for a length of 29.79 Km.

The scheme has been divided into three packages. The work order issued for package I, II and III are 18.02.2021, 31.12.2019 and 14.05.2020 respectively and works are in progress. The scheme is targeted to complete by August 2023 and put into beneficial use.
