Mayiladuthurai District Profile
- Mayiladuthurai district is bounded in the North by Cuddalore district, in the west by Thanjavur districts and in the south by Thiruvarur district and Karaikkal district in Pondicherry State and east by Bay of Bengal.
- The District lies between 10º 57’ 00”N to 11º 26' 00”N Latitude, 79º 31' 00”E to 79º 55' 00”E Longitude and has an aerial extent of 1172 sq.km.
Physiography and Drainage
- The entire Mayiladuthurai district is a plain terrain with the slope less than 1%. The topographical slope is towards east and southeast.
- The total length of the coast in the east is 90 km.
- The district area falls under river basin namely Cauvery sub basin.
- The district is drained by river like Cauvery, Kollidam, Virasolanar, Uppanar
- The district forms the delta part of river Cauvery.
