Tirupathur District Profile
- Tirupathur district is bounded by Vellore District in the East, Dharmapuri and Tiruvannamalai Districts in the South and Krishnagiri District in the West and State of Andhra Pradesh in the North.
- The District lies between 12º29’21.77’’ to 12º49’83.51’’ North Latitude and 78º34’45’’ to 78º56’41’’ East Longitude and has an area extent of 1,757.92 sq.km.
Physiography and Drainage
- Tirupathur district can be broadly classified as hilly terrains and plain regions.
- The east of Eastern Ghats where lies the Palar plain region.
- The Palar region is sloping towards east.
- The Palar river in its course is successively enriched by the tributaries in this district is Mannar, and Malatar river.
- Palar is not a perennial river and occurrence of flood is very rare and of very short duration.
- However river Palar has good thickness of Alluvium of all through.
