Ranipet District Profile

  • Ranipet district is bounded by Tiruvellore, Kancheepuram Districts in the East, Tiruvannamalai District in the South and Vellore District in the West and State of Andhra Pradesh in the North.
  • The District lies between 12º93’20.63’’ to 12º55’55.42’’ North Latitude and 79º33’66’’ to 79º20’47’’ East Longitude and has an area extent of 2,234.32 sq.km.

Physiography and Drainage

  • Ranipet district can be broadly classified as Plain region with small hillock.
  • Where, the Palar river region is plain and sloping towards east..
  • The Palar river in its course is successively enriched by the tributaries in this district is Ponnai river.
  • Palar is not a perennial river and occurrence of flood is very rare and of very short duration.
  • However river Palar has good thickness of Alluvium of all through.
