Namakkal District Profile

  • Namakkal district is bounded by Tiruchirappalli district in the East, Erode district in the West, and Salem district in the North and Karur district in the South.
  • The District lies between 11º 00'00”N to 11º 34’ 48”N Latitude, 77º 40'15”E to 78º 29' 30”E Longitude and has an areal extent of 3404 sq.km.

Physiography and Drainage:

  • Namakkal district is characterized by undulating terrain with isolated hillocks, which are part of Eastern Ghats.
  • Kolli hills range is the important hill in the district. The general slope of the area is towards south and southeast.
  • Most of the southern part of the district is drained by Cauvery and its tributary Thirumanimuttar.
